Johann Hari: Stolen Focus

I recently read this book, and I can confidently say it’s a life-changing piece of work. If you only do one thing for yourself this year, let it be reading this book.

I won’t go into too much detail—I don’t want to spoil the experience—but here’s a brief summary.

While the book’s main goal is to explore why we’re losing the ability to concentrate and focus, it goes far beyond that. It becomes a profound analysis of human well-being, modern society, and the challenges of our time.

Hari touches on a wide range of topics including education, digital overload, sleep deprivation, nutrition, hormone balance, ADHD, trauma, politics, the economy, climate change, and more. Despite the broad scope, the book feels cohesive and insightful. It connects many dots and offers a better understanding of how we function—and how we can feel well again.

Although Hari interviews many experts and references scientific studies throughout, the book remains highly readable, engaging, and hard to put down.

In a world that constantly pulls our attention in every direction, Stolen Focus offers a powerful reminder that regaining our ability to concentrate is not just a mental challenge—it’s deeply connected to our emotional well-being and sense of inner stability. Understanding the roots of distraction can help us reclaim calm, clarity, and a more grounded way of living.

So read this book—and take action.
